Paediatric Physiotherapy

Helping children move, play and grow

Paediatric physiotherapy supports babies, children and teenagers with conditions that affect movement and development.

Sessions are play-based and family-centred. We work closely with parents so that progress continues at home, at school and at play.

Conditions we treat

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Spina bifida
  • Developmental delay and developmental coordination disorder (DCD)
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Peripheral nerve injuries, including brachial plexus injury
  • Muscular dystrophies and myopathies
  • Low muscle tone
  • Sports and growth-related injuries in older children

Approaches we use

NDT

Hands-on handling that helps children find better ways to move.

Sensory integration

Activities that help the body process movement and touch.

Aquatic therapy

Water makes movement easier, and most children enjoy it.

Home programmes

Simple activities for families, plus advice on adaptive equipment.

What your sessions involve

The first visit is a relaxed assessment. We talk with you about your child’s development and your concerns, and watch how your child moves and plays.

A parent or guardian stays with the child throughout every session.

Questions about paediatric physiotherapy

Does a parent need to be present?

Yes. A parent or guardian stays with the child during every session. It helps the child feel safe and lets you learn the activities.

Can children use the pool?

Yes, when it suits their condition. Many children enjoy the water, which makes therapy feel like play.

How do I know if my child needs physiotherapy?

If you’re concerned about how your child sits, crawls, walks, balances or keeps up with others, an assessment can help. Your paediatrician can also advise.
