Neurological Physiotherapy

Rehabilitation for brain, spinal cord and nerve conditions

Neurological physiotherapy helps people living with conditions of the brain, spinal cord and nerves to regain movement, balance and independence in daily life.

Michelle is certified in NDT Adult Neuro (NDTA, USA), PNF (IPNFA, Holland) and CIMT (USA), and the pool lets many people practise standing and walking with support.

Conditions we treat

  • Stroke
  • Head injury and traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Bell’s palsy and facial weakness
  • Peripheral nerve injuries
  • Balance and walking difficulties

Approaches we use

NDT (Bobath)

Hands-on guidance to improve posture, movement and everyday tasks.

PNF

Patterns of movement that build strength, coordination and control.

CIMT

Focused practice that encourages use of a weaker arm or hand.

Sensory approaches

Rood's approach and sensory integration, plus balance and gait training.

Aquatic therapy

Water supports the body, so practice can start earlier and feel safer.

Family involvement

Carers learn how to help safely, so progress continues at home.

What your sessions involve

We start by understanding what matters most to you, such as walking outdoors, dressing yourself or returning to work, and build sessions around those goals.

Family members and carers are welcome to join. We show them how to help with exercises and daily activities safely.

Questions about neurological physiotherapy

When should rehabilitation start after a stroke?

As soon as your medical team says it is safe. Early, regular therapy tends to help, but improvement is still possible months and years later.

Can family members attend sessions?

Yes, and we encourage it. Carers learn how to help safely with exercises and everyday tasks.

Is the pool useful for neurological conditions?

Often, yes. Water supports the body, so many people can stand, walk and practise balance in the pool before they can on land.
